Nomadic Kyrgyzstan: Lakes & Yurts
Issyk-Kul, Karakol, Kochkor and Son-Kul
Eight days around Issyk-Kul and up to the high-altitude lake Song-Kul – with nights in yurts, an eagle hunter show and genuine nomadic hospitality.
Route: Bishkek → Boom Gorge → Balykchy → Cholpon-Ata → Karakol
Karakol, at the eastern end of Issyk-Kul, is the starting point for treks to Ala-Kul and Altyn-Arashan, for the Jeti-Oguz valley and, in winter, for the ski resort. The road from Bishkek is about 400 km long and leads through the Chuy valley, the Boom Gorge and along the north shore of the lake – a beautiful drive in its own right.
With a private transfer you travel at your own pace, door to door, without changing minibuses on the way. The driver can stop for photos at the lake and for lunch in a roadside café. The journey takes about 6–7 hours. On request we can return by the south shore instead, or add visits such as the Burana Tower or the Cholpon-Ata petroglyphs for an extra charge.
Pick-up at your hotel in Bishkek or at Manas Airport at the agreed time. Drive east through the Chuy valley and the Boom Gorge to Balykchy and along the north shore of Issyk-Kul via Cholpon-Ata to Karakol, with short stops for photos and lunch. Arrival at your accommodation after about 6–7 hours.
Prices per person in USD. The final price is confirmed with your booking.
The cancellation terms for this tour are confirmed in writing together with your booking, before you pay anything.
Read our cancellation & refund policyShared minibuses (marshrutkas) are cheap but often crowded, leave only when full and have limited space for luggage. A private transfer takes you door to door at your chosen time and stops wherever you like.
Yes – for example the Burana Tower or the Cholpon-Ata petroglyphs. Each stop adds time and a small surcharge; tell us your wishes in the request.
The main road is open all year. In winter our vehicles use winter tyres and drivers adjust their speed; in heavy snow the departure may be postponed for safety.
