Nomadic Kyrgyzstan: Lakes & Yurts
Issyk-Kul, Karakol, Kochkor and Son-Kul
Eight days around Issyk-Kul and up to the high-altitude lake Song-Kul – with nights in yurts, an eagle hunter show and genuine nomadic hospitality.
Route: Bishkek → Ala-Archa National Park → Ak-Sai waterfall trail → Bishkek
Ala-Archa National Park protects a dramatic gorge in the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, only about 40 km south of Bishkek. Steep granite walls, snowfields and glaciers rise above a fast river and slopes covered with Tian Shan spruce and juniper (archa), which gave the park its name. It is the favourite weekend escape of Bishkek residents and the best place for a first taste of the Kyrgyz mountains.
With a local guide you follow the popular trail from the end of the park road up the Ak-Sai valley towards the Ak-Sai waterfall. The path climbs steadily through forest and alpine meadows and opens up views of the surrounding peaks. If you prefer an easier day, the guide can instead lead a gentle walk along the main valley. After a picnic lunch in the park you return to Bishkek in the late afternoon.
Pick-up at your hotel around 8:30 and a drive of about one hour to Ala-Archa National Park. From the end of the park road you hike with your guide up the Ak-Sai valley towards the waterfall, with rests and photo stops along the way. Picnic lunch in the park, then descent and return to Bishkek at about 17:30.

Read our cancellation & refund policyNo special experience is needed, but the waterfall trail is a steady uphill walk of several hours. If you are unsure, tell us in your request and the guide will plan an easier walk along the valley.
Yes, if other travellers have requested the same date we can combine groups, which lowers the price per person. Choose “Group” in the request form and we will let you know what is possible.
The park is open all year, but the upper trail is usually snowy and icy in winter. From November to April we offer a shorter walk in the lower valley instead – please ask in your request.
