This page gives general guidance for tourists. Entry rules depend on your citizenship and can change at short notice, so always check the current rules in official sources before you travel – for example the official e-visa portal evisa.e-gov.kg or the Kyrgyz embassy or consulate responsible for your country.
Visa-free entry
Kyrgyzstan allows citizens of many countries to enter without a visa for a limited period. At the time of writing this includes, for example, the member states of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the USA and many others, as well as most CIS countries. The permitted length of stay differs by citizenship, so check how many days apply to your passport.
E-visa and embassy visas
If your citizenship requires a visa, many nationalities can apply online for an electronic visa through the official portal evisa.e-gov.kg. In other cases the visa has to be applied for at a Kyrgyz embassy or consulate. Some visa categories require an invitation or supporting letter. Apply early enough before your trip and only use the official portal or official diplomatic missions.
Passport and entry
- Your passport should be valid for the whole stay; many countries recommend at least six months of remaining validity
- Keep your passport with you – it is needed at hotels, for some permits and at police checks
- If you plan to visit neighbouring countries, check the rules for re-entering Kyrgyzstan and which land border crossings are open to foreigners
Registration and longer stays
Short tourist stays of many nationalities do not require registration, but longer stays, work or study may do. If you plan to stay longer than a typical holiday, please check whether you need to register your place of stay.
Border zones
Some remote mountain areas close to the borders with China and Tajikistan require an additional border zone permit. If a tour or trek you are interested in goes into such an area, we will tell you in advance and explain what is needed.
How Global Visa can help
Global Visa is a consulting and document-support company – we do not issue visas and cannot guarantee decisions, which are made by the state authorities. We can explain the options for your situation, help you prepare an e-visa application or supporting documents, and advise on work visas, permits and registration. See our Migration & Visa services or send a visa question.
